The original Waiting for the Blue artwork was created with oil and acrylic on wood. It depicts a male Superb Blue Fairywren, one of a pair who spent much of the day on my old studio windowsill. He is shown with his grey plumage. When it is breeding season, and the males sport their bright blue plumage, he spends much of the day showing off and offering brightly coloured flower petal "gifts" to his lady wren to win her heart, but when the breeding season ends, and he turns grey, he doesn't quite seem to know what to do himself. It's almost as if he is waiting to be blue again so he can start the dance all over again.
